Major Polish Cities
Warsaw is Poland’s capital and largest city.
Łódź (Lodz) is the center of Poland’s textile industry; Kraków (Cracow)
is a cultural and
industrial center; Wrocław (Breslau) is a commercial and transportation hub;
and the industrial center of Poznań hosts annual international trade fairs.
Gdańsk (Danzig) is
a seaport and shipbuilding center; Szczecin is a port and industrial city;
Bydgoszcz provides an inland port and railway junction; Katowice is a center of mining
and industry; and Lublin is a manufacturing hub.
Poland Natural Resources
Poland’s most important mineral resources are
hard coal and lignite. Other major resources are sulfur
and copper. Some of the world’s largest sulfur deposits are in Poland,
with large reserves of copper, zinc and lead. Other important
minerals are rock salt, potash, iron ore and gypsum. Polish Agriculture
Although Poland is a leading agricultural
nation, it cannot meet the country's food needs. Small private family farms
produce 70% of all grains, beets, potatoes and other vegetables, apples,
strawberries, currants, rapeseed and tobacco. Cattle, pig, sheep, and poultry
products include meat, eggs, milk, butter, cheese and wool.
